ABOUT CHEMICAL PEEL

Chemical peels can improve the skin's appearance. In this treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the skin, which makes it "blister" and eventually peel off. The new skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. Chemical Peels are a wonderful way to safely and effectively renew your skin by promoting exfoliation and cellular skin turnover. A tailored ammount of acids, vitamins, and skin lighteners are applied to promote the renewal of skin – leading to a brighter and more even skin tone and complexion. Chemical exfoliation treatments can effectively treat dark spots, or hyper-pigmentation, reduce the appearance of scar tissue, resolve acne, as well as provide the benefits of anti-aging by reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

They can be used to reduce fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth, treat wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging, imrove the appearance of mild scars, treat certain types of acne, reduce age spots, freckles, and dark patches (melasma) due to pregnancy or taking birth control pills, improve the look and feel of skin. After a chemical peel, skin is temporarily more sensitive to the sun, so you need to wear sunscreen every day.

BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER

BEFORE: Tell your doctor if you have any history of scarring, cold sores that keep coming back, or facial X-rays. Before you get a chemical peel, your doctor may ask you to stop taking certain drugs and prepare your skin by using other medications, such as Retin-A, Renova, or glycolic acid. The doctor may also prescribe antibiotics or antiviral drugs. Work with your doctor to determine the depth of your peel. This decision depends upon the condition of your skin and your goals for treatment. Ask your doctor in advance whether you will need to have someone drive you home after your peel.

DURING : You can get a chemical peel in a doctor's office or in a surgery center. It's an outpatient procedure, meaning there's no overnight stay. The professional who does your peel will first clean your skin thoroughly. Then he or she will apply one or more chemical solutions -- such as glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, or carbolic acid (phenol) -- to small areas of your skin. That creates a controlled wound, letting  new skin take its place. During a chemical peel, most people feel a burning sensation that lasts about five to ten minutes, followed by a stinging sensation. Putting cool compresses on the skin may ease that stinging. You may need pain medication during or after a deeper peel.

AFTER: Depending upon the type of chemical peel, a reaction similar to sunburn occurs following the procedure. Peeling usually involves redness followed by scaling that ends within three to seven days. Mild peels may be repeated at one to four-week intervals until you get the look you're after. Medium-depth and deep peeling may result in swelling as well as blisters that may break, crust, turn brown, and peel off over a period of seven to 14 days. Medium-depth peels may be repeated in six to 12 months, if necessary. After treatment, you may need bandages for several days on part or all of the skin that was treated. You'll need to avoid the sun for several months after a chemical peel since your new skin will be fragile.

We use only the best quality and most effective products.

Treatment duration

Depending on the amount of product and the patient sensitivity the procedure takes 30-60 min.

Treatments number – How often?

Chemical peel assumes a course of treatments in different time intervals, which vary depending on the treated problem, substance used and the desired effect. The frequency of repetition is once a 2 weeks to once a month, a course of treatment usually consists of 3 to 10 treatments.

Expected results and benefits

Depending upon your treatment, visible exfoliation usually begins on the second day following your treatment and is preceded by the feeling of tightness or itchiness. After several days of exfoliation, your complexion will begin to appear brighter and tighter while also enjoying a newfound softness and glow. Full results are usually best judged several weeks following your treatment, depending upon the formulation of your chemical peel.

Risks and Recovery

Some skin types are more likely to develop a temporary or permanent color change in the skin after a chemical peel. Taking birth control pills, subsequent pregnancy, or a family history of brownish discoloration on the face may make that more likely. There is a low risk of scarring in certain areas of the face. While generally very safe and effective, as with any aesthetic treatment, certain risks exist with chemical peels and can vary depending upon the strength of the formulation used, your natural skin tone, and your unique response factor. Very rare, guests may experience post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation (PIH) following a chemical peel.
Purging is sometimes seen in our guests, which is believed to be the body’s way of “pushing out” the dead skin as well as other debris from the treated area. Usually resembling acne, those that experience a purging effect will see the collection of white blood cells and other fluid with an associated superficial infection that usually self-resolves with easy care considerations. At times, we may need to provide additional medical attention to actively treat the infected areas with antibiotics. PIH can form following this purging effect, necessitating additional exfoliation treatments or a daily correction regime. Some of the additional risks include allergic reactions to active ingredients, excessive burning to the treated area and hyper-sensitivity to heat or sun light following your treatment. Innova Estetic will provide a consultation prior to your chemical peel to thoroughly review the risks and benefits of chemical peels as well as to provide the necessary guidance so as to increase the effectiveness of treatments while reducing these risks. Limit your time in the sun, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and wear a wide-brimmed hat.
